2018-2019 Season Information
The City of Burlington will be closing Angela Coughlan Pool starting after March break until late October/early November in 2019. The closure is due to renovations that will be performed in and around the pool, not dissimilar to those completed at Burlington Centennial Pool in recent years (i.e. re-tiling pool, changeroom renovations, etc…).
The impact is obvious on all programs that use the pool: Angela Coughlan Pool like all City pools is booked solid with both City programs (e.g. lap swim, rec swim, lessons) & with user groups (e.g. synchro, diving, age group and masters swim teams); programs have to be accommodated with one less pool offering inventory of time slots.
What we know today: our training schedule from Sept 2018 to mid March 2019 is the same as in the 2017-2018 season.
What we don’t know: the full effects and what pool times / what pools we will have from March to October 2019.
As a result, we will be dividing registration into two:
September 2018 – March 2019: allowing all Junior Masters the opportunity to train for the High School Swim Meet season and OFSAA, and all Masters the opportunity to train for the MSO (Masters Swimming Ontario) competitive season including Provincials which will be held in late March at the Markham Pan-Am pool.
March to June and Summer Swim: will have separate registration. Due to these periods being relatively short we will most likely unite these periods into a single training block so that open water swimmers & triathletes have a consistent schedule of in pool time to meet their training goals.
Regarding the start of the 2019-2020 season… it all depends on whether construction at Angela Coughlan Pool is on schedule or not. We will provide updates when we receive confirmation (i.e. pool permits) for the 2019-2020 season.
